Sun Signs For December 2007

Sun in Sagittarius sparks search for meaning and greater wisdom

On Thanksgiving Day, the sun completed its transit of Scorpio, which took us on a month-long journey of deep soul-searching and personal transformation. Also on November 22, the sun entered far-sighted and truth-seeking Sagittarius. Ruled by the expansive planet Jupiter, the sun in Sagittarius seeks to expand our boundaries, pointing us toward new experiences that may engender greater wisdom. People born with the sun, moon or rising sign in Sagittarius are freedom-loving truth seekers whose desire to gain greater knowledge and wisdom benefits all of humanity when they develop the communication skills necessary to teach and inspire others.

December's energies provide a “compass reading” for life's journey

While the sun is in Sagittarius, we naturally seek greater wisdom through experiences that help us to develop higher consciousness. On November 24, we had a full moon in Gemini, opposite the sun in Sagittarius, igniting our desire for experiences that stretch our consciousness to new horizons. This full moon is significant for us through most of December, as it activates the nodal axis of the moon, which represents humanity's current collective journey and provides a “compass reading” for where we are in our soul's journey through life. If we are in alignment with our higher purpose, we will experience grace in the synchronistic way our life unfolds. Since our personal evolution is reflected in the quality of our relationships, our culture, and our world, any work we do to raise our own consciousness benefits all of humanity.

New moon highlights positive aspects for new direction

We enter the month of December with a very positive planetary configuration; a grand triangle that supports the positive expression of our creativity, desires, and love, aligning these qualities with our higher purpose. The doorway is being opened this month for us to make a leap into higher consciousness. Use meditation, prayer, or contemplative practices to align your conscious intent with your higher purpose, allowing Spirit to flow through you, and watch your life blossom into much more than you could have wished for. On December 9, we have a new moon in Sagittarius, coupled with Mercury, Jupiter and Pluto, giving us a huge blast of positive Sagittarian influence which serves to propel us toward manifesting our intentions. The new moon also interacts with a tense aspect between the planet of communication, Mercury, and Saturn and Uranus, bringing us face-to-face with the need to implement significant changes in our customary way of seeing our world and communicating with others.

Planetary changes bring reorientation of purpose and direction

On December 18 and 19, we have three significant planetary changes that shift the context in which we experience our lives. Jupiter leaves its home sign of Sagittarius, entering Capricorn where it will transit for the next twelve months. To some degree we will experience this as a contraction of Jupiter's naturally expansive energy, but it will serve to help us focus on worthwhile goals and refine our way of going about them, so that we become more efficient and therefore more successful. Saturn turns retrograde (apparent backwards motion) in Virgo, giving us a few months in which to review and integrate the recent course-corrections we have made. Additionally, the north nodal axis of the moon, which orients us in the direction of our soul purpose and greatest growth, enters Aquarius. Over the next two years, the soul path in Aquarius serves to awaken all of us to our inherent brotherhood-sisterhood on spaceship earth.

The Winter Solstice and full moon illuminate our new path

The sun leaves Sagittarius, entering Capricorn at the Winter Solstice on December 21. From this point through the end of December and into the New Year, the sun in Capricorn orients us toward putting our enlightened perspectives into practical form by taking effective action in the world. We commit to a purpose that transcends our personal desires. On December 23, we have a full moon in Cancer, opposite the sun in Capricorn, illuminating our new sense of direction and purpose, and giving us the vision of how to fulfill that purpose. While the soul path transits Aquarius, the world has a chance to see the futility of batting over differing ideologies, and as the Christian world comes together to honor a great master and teacher, may we remember the essence of the teaching of all religions; that we are all One.
