Worldwide Live Earth Concerts on 07/07/07

Live Earth is a series of 9 concerts taking place over 24 hours on 07/07/07 on 7 continents, will bring together more than 100 top music artists—including Madonna, Duran Duran and Bon Jovi—to trigger an increase in awareness of the climate crisis. By reaching a worldwide audience of 2 billion people through unprecedented global media coverage—TV, radio, Internet and wireless channels—Live Earth hopes to inspire a global movement to solve the crisis, particularly within the US which is currently dragging its heels in addressing the need for change.

Live Earth will stage concerts at Giants Stadium in New York; Wembley Stadium in London; Aussie Stadium in Sydney; Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro; Maropeng at the Cradle of Humankind in Johannesburg; Makuhari Messe in Tokyo; the Steps of the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai; HSH Nordbank Arena in Hamburg; and the Seven Towers Fortress in Istanbul.

This Live Earth production marks the beginning of a multi-year campaign led by the Alliance for Climate Protection, The Climate Group and other international organizations to drive individuals, corporations and governments to take action to solve global warming.

With support from the U.S. Green Building Council, creators of the LEED Green Building Rating System, Live Earth will implement new Green Event Guidelines. All Live Earth venues will be designed and constructed by a team of sustainability engineers who will address the environmental and energy management challenges of each concert site.

Live Earth will be a unique moment when the uninterrupted and undivided attention of the world will be focused on the climate crisis. You can do this in more than one way:

1.  You can watch it in your home;

2.  You can join with others for a house party where you can discuss politics as you enjoy the best in entertainment

3.  You can go to a huge event in your area, whichever you choose.

These 9 Live Earth  concerts will be broadcast worldwide to a live audience by MSN at www.LiveEarth.MSN.com. Locally, Rueben H. Fleet Space Theater will be downloading a portion of the 52-hour show. You can find out when and where the larger local Live Earth events will take place by going to wwwactivistsandiego.org. For the national events, visit www.liveearth.org for the most up to date information.

Collaboration Brings Hot Meals to SD Homebound Community

Special Delivery, started by Ruth Hendricks in 1989, is an all-volunteer delivery service that provides homebound San Diegans with 3 meals a day, free-of-charge. The idea arose out of Ruth's desire to help one of the “regulars” at her restaurant on Goldfinch Street. During his daily visits he confided to her that he had AIDS. When he stopped showing up Ruth figured if he was too weak to come out he was too weak to prepare his meals. Wanting to do something to help him and others in need, Ruth launched Special Delivery.

Nicholas White recently formed the Loyd White Foundation to identify areas where community assistance is needed for patients suffering from life threatening illnesses. Then the Foundation works to provide solutions to fill the need. When the Foundation approached Sarah Thomas, the manager of Peets Coffee and Tea, 350 University Avenue, about making donations to Special Delivery, she responded, “I am excited, we have been searching for something like this!”

For 18 years Special Delivery has operated successfully with an all-volunteer staff--through the generosity of individuals, grants and organizations like Peets--to provide nourishment and comfort for its homebound clients. If you would like to help contact Nicholas White at the Loyd White Foundation 619/285-3970.
