Midtown Church renamed to Universal Spirit Center

“For about two years, some of us have had a growing sense that we are expanding beyond our name. We are a church, but we are also more than a church”, says Senior Minister, Rev. Kevin Bucy. “We are a center where people from diverse religious and spiritual traditions can come together to experience the Oneness of God, the Divine in each and every one of us.” The new Logo for the Center --a Thousand-Petal Lotus, a rose window, a Buddhist mandala, the Native American sun, the Eye of God, and more--reflects the diversity of their community.

Since its founding in 2001 as Midtown Church, the Universal Spirit Center has been committed to serving others through various projects around the world. The center is, and will remain, part of the Religious Science denomination. For information about Sunday Gatherings, classes, and other activities visit: www.UniversalSpiritCenter.org , or call 619/291-4728. Beyond “The Secret” in SD and LA

Dattatreya Siva Baba, a living Tamil Saint, will present the secret Siddha technology to make your dreams a reality. He will teach how to create a new mind, accelerate time and live a life of miracles. Come and discover the ancient mysteries unveiled for the first time in the West by the Guru who was the inspiration behind Wayne Dyer's best-seller, Manifest Your Destiny .

Baba explains his ideas on the theories in “The Secret”: “Consciousness is the building block of matter. Consciousness is primarily thoughts. The ancient Vedic saying is ‘You become as you think'. If you are poor/rich, healthy/sick, happy/depressed, it is all manifestation of your thought forms. The key is to understand that thoughts do not manifest immediately as material reality. Your current money, health and relationships are results from the past life. There is always a time lag between thought and its manifestation into matter. This is where people go wrong. They don't understand the time dynamics. They simply think that what they think today for a mansion or a Mercedes Benz will happen immediately or in a few months. In this seminar you will learn two techniques to erase negative programs coming from past life and that has become your present life. The Buddhists and the Hindus call this reality as Prarabdha Karma. You should erase it before you put new thoughts for manifestation. You will also learn two techniques to accelerate time for manifesting your current thoughts.”

The seminars will be held in San Diego, April 21 and Los Angeles, April 22. Seminar Fee: $95. Pre-registration is required at www.sivababa.org/events or email office@sivababa.org

Local Growers Focus at EarthFair

“Joe the Farmer” and other local growers will answer questions and provide information on local farming and gardening at the Balboa Park Earth Fair on Sunday, April 22.

In addition, Leslie “The Enchanted Gardener” will appeal to children with his Enchanted Garden Mobile and activities. These include decorating produce boxes and readings of “The Comeback of Joe the Farmer”. Each page of the book is sponsored by organizations such as the Alliance of Family Farmers and La Milpa Organic Farm. The storytelling will take place at 2 and 4pm.

Parents can sign a “Love Letter to Joe” and contribute to help launch the Rodriguez Ranch buy back, the 100-acre organic farm where Joe has farmed organically since 1985, but now leases. Those who sign and contribute toward the Rodriguez Ranch buy back can dip into baskets that contain Treasure Troves of gifts, offered by other signers.

Booth organizers are also encouraging teachers and parents to apply for grants to support school gardens through the California Instructional School Garden Program and the California Department of Education.  Non-competitive grants up to $5,000 per school site are available. Applications, which must be submitted by April 20, are available on the California School Garden Network site at www.csgn.org. The booth, titled “Sign a Love Letter to Joe the Farmer and Plant Your Dream” will be located at the Pan American Plaza, adjacent to the Children's Area.
