Guru Ganesha and Snatam Kaur Khalsa Touring
Interview with Guru Ganesha by Joanie Blaxter
I spoke to Guru Ganesha Singh, the founder of the Snatam Kaur ensemble, on the phone from Burlington, Vermont.

 |
He explained that audiences for the west coast tour are in for a wonderful treat with the addition of 3 new musicians to the band. Girish Gambhira (vocal, tablas, fusion percussion, guitar, harmonium) has accompanied many of the most well-known names in the yoga music genre. And Angelika Baumbach (vocal and harp) and Markus Sieber (vocal and guitar) comprise the band Mirabai Ceiba. She is from Mexico, he from Germany, and their music expresses the influences of both India and Native Latin America. Mirabai Ceiba will open the set for the first half-hour and then halfway though the second set, Snatam and Angelika will sing together. “Nobody has ever heard them perform together before, “ said Ganesha.

Back to the Future: Earth Days via Earth Ways
With Biodynamics, Healthy Recipes and News to Use
by Jennifer Joe
Earth Day is truly every day. Food and farming has long told a story of our society, our values, and our relationship to the Earth. All creatures are defined ecologically by how they fit into a food chain. In the case of humans, the industrialization of food has obscured this once-plain fact, to the point where most Americans are only barely aware that their food represents their most profound engagement with the natural wor ld. I recently had the privilege to hear and meet Michael Pollan, NY Times bestselling author of The Omnivore's Dilemma, award-winning journalist, as he spoke about Food, his new book In Defense of Food: an Eater's Manifesto , Health, and more.

Easy Ways to Go Green for Earth Day
You don't have to be Al Gore to understand that going green is vital to Mother Earth's survival—and our own. Most of us want to do our part to prevent global warming, but aren't sure how. The good news is, scientists have reported that if each of us did our part to reduce our carbon dioxide emissions by just 2% a year, we could actually prevent the worst effects of global warming by the year 2050! So celebrate Earth Day every day by making a few small lifestyle changes. Not only will they help save our planet, but they can also save you money. Here's how:
1. Say Good-bye to energy vampires . Reduce your utility bill and your carbon dioxide emissions by upgrading to energy-efficient appliances, like an adjustable thermostat, throughout your home. Also, unplug common appliances like your cell phone charger, computer and TV when not in use: if they're plugged in, they're draining energy even if they're not turned on. And instead of cranking the heat—pile on the extra layers and get cozy with your loved ones.

SOLAR ELECTRIC ECONOMICS 101:
Can Home-Generated Solar Electricity
Really Save You Money?
by Frank Russo
You're probably already aware that solar electric systems are good for everyone because they prevent tons of greenhouse gases from pouring into the atmosphere, and they ease the load on the grid at times of maximum demand.
Perhaps you, like many others, think it's basically a good idea, but you're waiting for when solar costs less than utility rates. Well folks, that bus has quietly come and gone.

Being Non-Attached to Outcomes
By Brandon Bays
Often, we become attached to something or someone because deep down we fear we wouldn't be complete without them. We fear letting go into the presence of the unknown, and feel that we would be left bereft, lost, alone without that outer p ossession, person, lifestyle. Indeed, some of us have become so identified with these things that we experience them as our actual identity … I'm Mr. or Mrs. so-and-so … I'm a teacher, engineer, business person … I live in … My children are … My lifestyle is … I, I, I, … My, my, my, …

ECONOMIC PERSPECTIVE
Money Market Funds in Danger
By Richard Martin
It's been just over a year since I last wrote for The Light Con-ection. At that time I was advising you of a possible stock market break and before that for several years I had been warning you about the impending collapse of the housing market and how to prepare for it. Although they say that “what you don't know can't hurt you,” in the case of financial matters nothing could be further from the truth. Both of my predictions have since come to pass. Since we can't trust the government or the media or the financial industry to tell us the truth, I have made it my mission to spend many hours a day poring over information which is not readily available to most people. With that information I make suggestions which, I hope, will assist you in preparing for your own, personal, economic survival during these challenging times.
