Let's Stop Beating Around the Bush! Jim Hightower San Diego Event August 20
National radio commentator, columnist, and the New York Times best-selling author Jim Hightower is coming to town for a public appearance at 7:30 pm on Friday, August 20, at the Joyce Beers Community Center in Uptown San Diego. Hightower will be speaking on “Defending the Ballot” and addressing related issues such as fair media relations, the dangers of computerized voting without a paper trail, and the hidden voter information in Florida (as they attempt to purge their voter rolls— again).
Hightower has spent the past four years crisscrossing America to uncover the real state of the union under King George the W and his band. His most recent book, Let's Stop Beating Around the Bush!, is reported to do what neither Bush nor Kerry is able to do – make this election fun! At a time when unvarnished political truth is harder to find than WMDs, he breaks from the pack to scorch off the varnish for us in this book of more than 100 short essays.
Hightower has come to a disturbing conclusion: “THESE PEOPLE ARE NUTS!” In no uncertain terms, he outlines how the Bushites have:
• Heisted $1.3 trillion from our public treasury and doled it out to their richest campaign backers;
• Defoliated our environmental protections;
• Launched a class war, not only against the poor, but against the middle class as well;
• Taken a weedwhacker to our Bill of Rights;
• Sought to castrate labor unions;
• Turned a $240 billion budget surplus into a $520 billion debt;
• Attempted to privatize everything from the military to Social Security;
• And hurled our nation into a maniacal, messianic, testosterone-driven global war to make the world safe for Halliburton.
Hightower's previous best-selling books include: Thieves In High Places: They've Stolen Our Country and It's Time to Take It Back ; If the Gods Had Meant Us to Vote They Would Have Given Us Candidates ; and There 1s Nothing in the Middle of the Road But Yellow Stripes and Dead Armadillos. His daily radio commentaries air on more than 120 public and commercial radio stations, and his award-winning Hightower Lowdown newsletter has more than 120,000 subscribers. He lives in Austin, Texas, and calls himself a Luddite with a website: www.jimhightower.com.
This event is part of a series of like events arround the country advanced and supported by an alliance of groups including MoveOn, True Majority, and Common Cause, working together to protect the voters in this next election and to make sure their votes are fairly counted. Common Cause is the main sponsor of our local event, which is also being promoted by other activist groups such as SAVE Democracy.
The Joyce Beers Community Center is located in uptown San Diego, one block No. of University on Vermont. For further information call 619/222-6036 or 858/272-5236.

‘Money & You' Returns to San Diego
'Money & You,' a three-day program combining a
proven business success model with experiential games, fun and learning, is being offered next in San Diego August 19–22.
The program debriefs and changes people's perceptions of what will give them predictable success in their personal and professional life. Participants learn not through watching and listening, but by experiencing and applying insights in accelerated learning simulations that help to bring to life the principles taught by masters R. Buckminster Fuller, Edwards Deming, and others.
Money & You is presented all over the world by Excellerated Business Schools for Entrepreneurs, a leading educational organization since 1978 whose graduate list reads like a “Who's Who” in entrepreneurial success stories. Many of its over 45,000 graduates concur that the program made the difference in creating their own financial and emotional success.
Money & You is approximately 15% lectures, 60% games and 25% debriefing the games. The games reflect personal beliefs and behavior, giving people their first major key to unlocking blocks to experiencing financial freedom. Breakthrough experiences can result in a quantum leap in business growth.
For many, money is the greatest cause of stress and upset in their lives. Most people sacrifice precious time they could be sharing with children, family or friends, or destroy their health by working harder to make more money. While M&Y is not a “how To make money” course, participants learn the difference between money, wealth and cash flow. They look at the importance of investing and learn the habits of financial freedom. They distinguish the difference between being an employee, self-employed, a business owner, and an investor, and how to make a clear choice as to what they want to be. Some find out that they would rather never own a business but would rather be a valued employee and invest their money to grow it, an insight that could save many years of disappointment and frustration and money. Everyone gets more clear on their life purpose and how to capitalize on what they are really passionate about.
The program covers the latest, most-workable strategies for creating, acquiring, building and amassing enduring wealth that generates a steady stream of income for life.
