Monday Night Class ; Calendar - Yoga in Every Moment
Monday Night Class
Revised & Annotated Edition
By Stephen Gaskin; Book Publishing Company; 2005; 191
Monday Night Class began in 1967 at San Francisco State College and grew over the next few years into a weekly meeting of epic proportions, attracting as many as 1500 people. Led by Stephen Gaskin, former professor, sidestepped for contract renewal when he stepped over the invisible line into hippie visibility, the gathering was a forum for discussion of a wide range of topics—consciousness, enlightenment, God, gods, marriage, drugs, sex, politics and more—as viewed by those for whom the psychedelic experience was a way of life. |

Monday Night Class is a collection of original transcripts from those unique and inspiring meetings annotated with Stephen's commentary from today's perspective. Although some of the discussion is clearly a product of the times—you had to be there, man!—I found some true gems interspersed throughout. I guess I'm reviewing the book here out of nostalgia and a hope for a revival of the altruism of the ‘60s.

Are you looking for a beautiful and unique Holiday gift? Do you love to hang a gorgeous and meaningful new calendar in your home or office every January? I am a visual person and I love to pour over the multitudes of calendars available to us this time of year. |

When I first viewed Barbara Maynard's 2006 Yoga Calendar, I was overwhelmed with her labor of love! This calendar is filled with stunning and graceful black and white photographs that are utterly unique. Each month features a Yoga Master or group of Yoga students in a variety of magnificent and powerful poses. To better illustrate each photograph she has chosen to represent each month, Maynord features a quote by the subject about how yoga enhances thier life . My personal favorites are January and August. January features Tatiana Borsenko in the center of a natural spiraling labyrinth. She is absolutely beautiful and powerful, as she is depicted standing in a lunge, arching her back with arms and hands reaching to the sky! This photo has also been chosen to grace the cover of the Yoga Calendar. The message for the month of January from Tatiana is “Being in the posture, I face the greatest challenge of all-- accepting myself.” The month of August features Brian Dorffman sitting in a V pose on a jutting rock with the waves of the ocean washing up around him. Brian blesses us with his personal message, “Kindness, love, healing, energy, connection, bliss, yoga.”
Barbara Maynord has successfully merged her love of photography and yoga to create this one-of-a-kind awe inspiring calendar. It is truly a work of art from the heart featuring all black and white photographs, each of which will take your breath away. It must be seen to be fully appreciated! The product itself is professionally laid out, designed and printed. It is sure to be embraced by yoga lovers, creative and performance artists and naturalists everywhere!
Barbara lives and works in Encinitas, CA. She has made her living with her camera in her hands for some 15 years. You can view more of her work and share your thoughts about it at www.photosbybarbara.com.
Barbara says about this calendar, “To merge my love of yoga and photography has been a wellspring of creativity, focus and fun. Yoga is not just on the mat--we hope to take it into every moment of our lives. To take that heart, strength, compassion and surrender into our daily living is the journey.” —Reyon
