Sacred Mountains
Meditation Songs from the Diné

Sacred Mountains is an unusual experience of chants.
Created by an artist of Zuni descent raised on the reservation in the traditional ways of the Diné, these ten songs take you on a journey through the sacred mountains surrounding the vast homeland of his people. |

You don't have to understand the Diné language to appreciate the spirit of the majestic beauty of nature celebrated in these songs. It helps, of course, that the inner sleeve offers background information on the significance of each cut. The first four cuts offer a prayer to the four directions, and from there we move on to honoring for the mountain homeland, the sacred home, the ancestors, the elders, and the generations to come.
The gentle vocals woven against the sounds of nature are easy to listen to and deeply opening, creating the perfect ambiance for meditation, yoga or healing. I find the songs relaxing, soothing, the perfect backdrop for watching the sun set over the ocean.

Pacific Lounge
Sax & Piano to Chill-Out & Relax with
By Jessie Allen Cooper; Cooper Sound Waves; 2005; $15.99;
CooperSoundWaves.com; 310/392-7784
The combination of tenor sax and piano isn't often featured in new age music, and this innovation alone was enough to draw me to check out Jessie Allen Cooper's new release. So although I didn't find the title particularly appealing, not being a lounge music aficionado, I was curious enough to give it a spin.

Cooper's soft sax must have been born to glide alongside Tim Ponzek's gentle piano playing. The resultant sound is lush, romantic, haunting.
“All of these compositions portray and were inspired by LOVE,” Jessie writes. “From friendship to romance…. The idea behind the title of the CD is that the music is meant to help listeners unwind just like they were walking along a beach somewhere. I like to think of the ocean as a lounge. An ocean is one of nature's best relaxation tools.”
This taste of ocean as lounge is fine musicianship. Perfect for leisurely listening or as a background for massage or healing work.
