While "visions of sugar plums dance in our heads...," Americans' addiction to "all things sweet" seems to gain momentum as the holidays roll on. Even though the federal government and other experts have warned against the persistent trend of dangerously high consumption of refined sugar, considered an element in contributing to a variety of diseases, the consumption of sugars and sweeteners in the U.S. is estimated at 157 pounds per person/per year, by the U.N.'s FAO report. Refined processed sugars (and artificial substitutes, mostly devoid of nutrients), tax the health of our people and the planet.

New U.S. Gov’t May Bring a Green-Driven Economy

On Tuesday, November 18, Barack Obama sent a video message to a summit conference on Global Warming organized for governors, business people and representatives of world governments convened by Arnold Schwarzenegger. He assured them that despite the current economic turmoil, he remained committed to the environmental polici es he articulated during the campaign. These included reducing greenhouse gases to 1990 levels by 2020 and an additional 80 percent by 2050 and investing $150 billion dollars in new energy-saving technologies.
