December 2008 Music Reviews
Ocean
By: Mirabai Ceiba; Spirit Voyage Records; 2008; $16.49; www.SpiritVoyage.com
Yogi Bhahan has to be singing – I can hear him in the voices chanting the beautiful music on this CD. From the initial cut ––“the answer to all prayers,” reads the explanation inside the sleeve– to the final Spanish translation of an Irish blessing chant, the album soothes and uplifts musically as it blesses the spirit.
There's a beautiful message here. The lyrics of the title song, translated from Sufi texts, read, “The Ocean refuses no river, no river; The Open heart refuses no part of me, no part of you.” |

And then we move to the next cut, for which the English lyrics, written by Shiv Charan Singh, tell us “Life is not happy, is not sad. Life is not easy, is not hard. Just put a smile on it, and you will see, you will see.”
I never knew Yogi Bhajan, but I do know and love some of his followers, and I do appreciate this gentle music. I hope you will, too.
And I wish you a blissful day, neither happy nor sad ––“Just put a smile on it, and you will see, you will see.”
