Bev Harris of blackboxvoting.org In San Diego Feb. 25-26--Take Back the Vote!
Noted fair-election activist Bev Harris will be appearing in San Diego at two separate events this month. On Friday, February 25th she will be speaking at the First Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1600 Buena Vista Drive , Vista , at 7pm . Saturday, February 26th, she will be at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 4190 Front Street, San Diego at 7pm. Suggested donation for each event are $10.
At first a lone voice demonstrating the problems with electronic voting machines in general, and Diebold Election Systems in particular, Ms. Harris is now a leader among many, as others have joined the fight for safe, accurate, verifiable elections. Always outspoken in the struggle against partisan, fraudulent and incompetent election officials and voting machine companies, Bev's book, Black Box Voting: Ballot Tampering in the 21st Century, and her web site, www.blackboxvoting.org are a source of information and inspiration to those involved in the voting rights issue.
The events are sponsored by many local peace and democracy groups. For more information go to www.defendingtheballot.org.

Determined to play again, he focused on creating compositions suited to his limited movements. Unknowingly, he was utilizing a type of music therapy that eventually allowed him to play again.
Roubik is now recognized worldwide for his healing music. His music therapy recordings are scientifically tested to have the most healing properties of any modern music. It is used by doctors, athletes and spiritual healers including Dr. Masaru Emoto. Alan Roubik will be playing songs at Dr. Emoto's seminar, as well as the closing ceremonies, at the Prophet's Conference.

Cell Phone Number “Do Not Call” List
Many of us have received, in one form or another, an email stating that on a certain date all cell phone numbers will be made public to telemarketing firms and if we didn't get our cell numbers on it we would be harassed endlessly.
At www.about.com, Urban Legends and Folkore, we found it is only partly true. They state that, “While it's true that the major wireless phone providers (with the exception of Verizon) have announced their intention to establish a 411 directory of customers' cell phone numbers beginning in late 2005, it is not true that they plan to “publish” said directory for any and all to read. Participating companies say the numbers will be made available only with customer consent and only via telephone to users who dial directory assistance and pay a fee. The companies swear the numbers will never be available to telemarketers.
Per FCC regulations, telemarketers are already prohibited from calling cell phone numbers using automated dialers, which are standard in the industry. In any case, the Federal Trade Commission does allow cell phone users to add their numbers to the National Do Not Call Registry—the same one already in force for landlines—either on the web at www.donotcall.gov or by calling 888/382-1222.

National Day of Dance for Women's Heart Health, Saturday, February 26
Women across the country will be dancing to their heart's
content to celebrate the first national Day of Dance for Heart Health. Sponsored by the Spirit of Women Health Network. More than 20 hospitals and health networks will celebrate the benefits of dance and exercise in the prevention of heart disease, and will also reinforce awareness and education about cardiovascular health.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States. Despite this startling statistic, women are more likely to be misdiagnosed and are more likely to die of their first heart attack. The Day of Dance, conducted at shopping malls, art museums and other venues nationwide, will increase awareness of heart health, while providing women, and the men who love them, with education tips on leading hear-healthy lives.
Health screenings, educational presentations by prominent physicians and demonstrations by dance studios will be just some of the fun and educational activities. Ballroom dancing, rock-n-roll, jazz, salsa, swing and hip-hop are just some of the dance styles that will be incorporated in a wonderful experience for women to show that exercise can be fun. The message is to simply get moving.

Join Cronkite, Williamson, as Advocates for a U.S. Department
of Peace
Walter Cronkite and Marianne Williamson are supporting Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich in creating a national Department of Peace with the introduction of House Bill HR2459. Cronkite states in a recent op-ed piece, “Wouldn't it have been an advantage in the run-up to the Iraq War to have had a cabinet officer whose department was responsible...to do what was so disastrously absent when our forces rolled into Baghdad ?”
Williamson agrees, “The Department of Peace would take a more human approach to healing our society, looking not merely for ways we can destroy an enemy, but for more powerful ways to create new friends,”she said.
Under this bill, the DOP will be a governmental department, in order to raise the principle of peace to the same level of prominence as the Department of Defense and to install peaceful conflict-resolution as a fundamental principle of policy-making. The DOP would address violent conflict, not only on U.S. soil, but would research foreign policy and focus on nonmilitary peaceful conflict resolution. In addition, a peace academy patterned after military academies would be established to teach conflict-resolution skills and create peace-related postings for students after graduation, both here and abroad.
Americans for the Department of Peace (AFDOP), a San Diego-based citizens group organizing support of the bill now before Congress, is offering a free workshop to all interested individuals called Citizen Advocacy for a U.S. Department of Peace, on Saturday, February 12, 8:30am-4:30pm, as Church of Today, 8999 Activity Road, San Diego. The workshop will teach ways to enlist support from congressional reps, how to connect with other supporters, and how to reach out to the community for support.
To register for the workshops, call 858/689-6500 or email christine@beyondsuccess.us. Lunch can be provided if you register before Feb. 9.
