Annual Peace Alliance Conference - Feb 3-5 in Washington DC

The Peace Alliance Annual Conference will be held Feb 3-5th at our Nation's capitol. Featured Speakers include: Michael Bernard Beckwith, Denise Brown, Deepak Chopra, Rep. Keith Ellison, Jan Hartke, Rep. Dennis Kucinich and Marianne Williamson. There will be a special appearance by Joaquin Phoenix. Steven Tyler of Aerosmith will perform, as will Carly Godwin and Ricki-Byers Beckwith of Agape Church in Los Angeles.

Participate in an historic citizen lobbying effort to create a U.S.. Department of Peace. There is currently a bill before both Houses of Congress. This landmark measure will augment our current problem-solving options, providing practical, nonviolent solutions to the problems of domestic and international conflict.

Domestically, the Department of Peace will develop policies and allocate resources to effectively reduce the levels of domestic and gang violence, child abuse, and various other forms of societal discord. Internationally, the Department will advise the President and Congress on the most sophisticated ideas and techniques regarding peace-creation among nations.

City Councils across the U.S. are acknowledging the practical impact a Dept. of Peace will have at reducing violence in our nation and abroad. Eighteen cities have endorsed so far, representing a collective population of over 6.5 million people, including: Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Minneapolis, Oakland and San Jose.

As of 2007, we have a new Congress (the 110th). Therefore, the legislation to establish a Department of Peace will need to be re-introduced. This will happen in early February of 2007. In the meantime, the previous bill numbers from the 109th Congress, House Resolution 3760 and Senate 1756, can still be used as a reference when urging your members of Congress to sign on as co-sponsors for the bills re-introduction.

Bring Their Buddies Home 2/19

On Presidents's Day, Monday February 19th, across the country, hundreds of thousands of people will stand together in silence, dressed in black, each wearing the name of one of the fallen troops, to honor them and declare by an act of art that it's time to Bring Their Buddies Home. For one hour participants will all envision the troops coming home from Iraq in a communal meditation to stir in our legislators a resolve to end the US occupation of Iraq and to seek non-violent, diplomatic solutions to all existing and future conflicts.

The goal is to have thousands of participants at each of hundreds of vigils around the country, at the exact same time, on Feb 19th. (10-11 am PST, 11-12 pm MST, 12-1 pm CST and 1-2 pm EST). The Bring Their Buddies Home Act of Art is an expression of non-violence as practiced by Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King. Participants will be asked to deal with confrontation by continuing to stand in silence. They are also asked not to wear anything that will detract from the simple message of mourning and peace their presence is met to convey.

This Act of Art is based on the Bring Their Buddies Home Vigil held in Carlsbad, CA on Nov 25, 2005 when close to 1000 participants lined up along US Hwy 101. This event was organized by the Jeeni Criscenzo for Congress Campaign. While no longer a candidate, Jeeni Criscenzo is helping to organize this event prior to a Congressional vote on additional appropriations for the war in Iraq.

Local coordinators are needed to organize Bring Their Buddies Home Acts of Art in communities across the country. They will be provided with guidance and tools for organizing the event, including a Netrootz web page with sign-up forms and an easy way to send email to participants. Anyone interested in helping to make this event happen as a local coordinator in their area, should contact Jeeni Criscenzo at 760-529-9809 or 760-525-1915 or email to jeeni@criscenzo.com.

Event locations and links to sign up for them will be posted at www.BringTheir BuddiesHome.com. Hundreds of thousands of participants will have the opportunity to take a stand for one hour for peace.
