Sugar: The Bitter Truth, a very enlightening youtube report
Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, explores the damage caused by sugary foods. He argues that fructose (too much) and fiber (not enough) appear to be cornerstones of the obesity epidemic through their effects on insulin. Series: UCSF Mini Medical School for the Public [7/2009] [Health and Medicine] [Show ID: 16717]
Dr. Lustig puts high fructose corn syrup as the biggest demon that keeps the US obese. He said Nixon started the cheap food campaign during his presidency because he did not want it to influence the election. Butz sold corn syrup as the thing that would not allow people to go hungry, but it did just the opposite. He calls fructose a poison and says it is added to many foods. He claims McDonalds offers only 7 foods that do not have it added. Studies conclude that drinking a cola made children hungrier and they ate more.

This is a compelling discourse on health and obesity in children as well as adults. Warning: This program may make you a food-label checker.
