Chakra Healing

Mmmmm… what a nice sound to come home to at the end of a busy day, or to start or end the day with. From bottom to top—root chakra to crown—soothed, held in the energy of love. What could be better?

Chakra Healing is a whole healing kit in itself, contained in nothing more than a CD and its liner. All the information a chakra novice would need to amplify the healing character of the music is presented in the liner: a clear and concise overview of the chakra system and the qualities of each chakra; the color normally associated with each chakra; an affirmation for each chakra; information about crystals that can be used to stimulate each chakra; and two systems for toning, from C (root) to B (crown), using either the seed mantras or the specific sounds associated with each chakra.

All that, and beautiful music too! And to wrap it all up, the final track merges elements of all the chakras for a nice little culmination. The music can also serve a pleasing background for yoga, healing, creative work and other relaxation moments.

Beautifully presented, comprehensive in scope, clear and concise, complete with earth resonance frequency to deepen relaxation. Dean Evenson has done it again. A wonderful gift for a healer or a friend or relative in need of balance and healing. Or…for yourself, perhaps? —Chiwah

The Spiritual Kind

Rockabilly pop-bluesberry turnover in a country sauce, garnished with Latin and jazz, and stuffed full o' lyrics to give you a good taste of where she stands: firmly planted on an all-embracing spiritual path, choosing the upside over the downside but keeping her eyes wide open. That's what I get out of Terri Hendrix' The Spiritual Kind.

The CD opens with Terri's rendition of John Hadley's “Life's a Song,” which is, she says, how she feels about music. From then on, it's a creative mix of her own original lyrics and songs written by a variety of other soulful artists, including Woody Guthrie and Jimmie Driftwood. Terri delivers the vocals in her Texas twang against mostly acoustic string backing. She herself plays guitar, Papoose (acoustic guitar), harmonica and mandolin, while Lloyd Maines (her partner, and known to some as father to Dixie Chick Natalie) dishes up the instrumental main course on guitar, mandolin, dobro, dulcimer, banjo, pedal steel, Papoose and harmonium and sings harmony. Whew! And does a fi ne job of it all. A few well-chosen Austin A-listers round out the musical stew with stout, strong flavor from beginning to end.

If I had to sum up what I feel from Terri Hendrix, I'd say these words from the next-to-last cut, “If I Had a Daughter,” do a pretty good job: “If I had a daughter, I'd teach her how to face life and its peaks and valleys with grit, modesty, hope, compassion, and love.” As Rick Allen of Harp Magazine said, “Too smart to be cynical, too sharp to be naive, Hendrix nonetheless believes the human mess can be fixed.”

Now there's a ray of hope. I enjoyed this CD, and I think you will, too. —Chiwah
