CompassionateCommunications.com Transforms the Gift of Giving
Compassionate Communications has a new website that's transforming the experience of giving. Greg Voisen founded Compassionate Communications after his son, Sean, was diagnosed with Leukemia. “People want to know that they are really making a difference,” lifelong entrepreneur Voisen states. “They want to find a way to do that, to augment their financial giving, but in a way that they really give of themselves—with the currency of their heart.”
Hallmark has created a custom line of 50 card designs for users to choose from in both English and Spanish. Now anyone, anywhere in the nation, can effortlessly share personal messages of encouragement with those who are literally fighting for their lives. Blending art, heart and the latest web technology, Compassionate Communications is a growing community engaged in a nationwide healing dialogue.
Visitors can send personalized messages of support and encouragement to patients anywhere in the country and raise money for their chosen charity at the same time. Supporters subscribe and select from the database of patients who have requested to receive cards of support. Sean Voisen, now in remission and a highly talented programmer, has devised and built this technology that brings patients and those supporting them together in inspiration and healing. In Remembrance of Nathanael Pirolo, “Everyone's Friend”
He was a recognized, friendly bearded figure on the streets of San Diego. And he always had a good word for everyone he met. He was an amicable, gentle soul. But his time came and now he is gone. His name, Nathanael Pirolo, will long be remembered. He reached out to people. He cared. And he seems to have met practically everyone, from the Dalai Lama to the lowest of the forgotten in the sometimes unfriendly streets of our town. His congeniality was like that. He excluded no one. He decided to create an informal ‘friendship club' and invited everyone to consider themselves to be a part of it. Many of his ‘members' are regulars at the Claire De Lune Coffee Lounge in San Diego, but many are also from all over our world. Remembrances have been held from the Christ Church Unity to Claire De Lune's, concluding with a final get together held at the Coffee Lounge on the 29th of June. That would have been his 75th birthday. And he almost made it.
But he did make it, big time, in the heart and soul of so many. Yes, in some ways he may be gone, but in a much larger sense, he remains with us. We remember you, Nathanael. We remember and we are better for having known you. Submitted by Jonathan West, San Diego

Support Slow Food San Diego at Cardiff's Seaside Market July 19
Seaside Market in Cardiff-by-the-Sea is sponsoring a Community Day on July 19, with 5% of all proceeds from the sale of produce to support Slow Food San Diego's (SFSD) projects. Tastings and information tables will feature a variety of individuals and organizations. Come meet some of the people that make up our vibrant and growing food community; from growers, producers, chefs and more!
One beneficiary of the day's event is SFSD's continued support for the development of the unique garden farm project at the San Pasqual Academy (SPA) for foster teens. Scott Murray, an organic farmer for 30 years and President of SDSF, is turning the acreage into sustainable gardens, orchards and groves while teaching the students about nutrition, responsibility and land stewardship. The agriculture program also helps fight obesity and diabetes by offering fresh, organic produce and fruits for daily meals at the school. As the garden continues to grow and become sustainable, the produce will be sold to local restaurants and markets. SPA is the first residential education campus in the country to serve only foster youth. Slow Food USA envisions a future food system that is based on the principles of high quality and taste, environmental sustainability and social justice.
Also, save the date of Aug. 23 for the 5th Annual Taste of Slow Food San Diego & Stagecoach Days. From 5-9pm enjoy tastes of 20 great restaurants prepared by guest chefs inspired by the cultures of early San Diego. Locally grown food, artisan beers, wine from S.D.
