CA Common Cause in SD June 24, 25

Stronger ethics and “sunshine” laws, electoral reforms, voter access, and representative elections: There are times when issues such as these wouldn't draw a crowd. But today in San Diego, they are vital topics as people consider how to make their city government more responsive and accountable. Join California Common Cause, and a coalition of local groups, for a Town Hall Meeting on Local Government, 7pm, June 24 and 9am, June 25, at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego, 4190 Front St., San Diego, across from the UCSD Hospital.

On Friday night, we will come together to be inspired and energized by a keynote address and a local panel on governmental reform. Doors open at 6:30 for networking, with the program from 7-9pm. On Saturday, those interested in taking action will return to the First UU Church for a more in-depth panel discussion on campaign finance reform, electoral reform and security systems, voter accessibility, alternative voting systems, and “sunshine” and ethics requirements. After breaking into issue groups, we will make plans for follow-up actions and then have lunch together.

Local good government activist Don Hess comments, “In light of San Diego's recent scandals, we must demand real reform so our local government is fully accountable to the voters. If you would like to be part of the action, please join our local coalition, supported by California Common Cause, which will be instrumental in making this happen.”

Future plans include a candidate's forum in mid-July. There we will ask mayoral candidates for their responses to the questions coming out of the mini-conference. For more information, please contact Don Hess at 619-427-7257 or John Falchi at pacerjp14@sbcglobal.net.
