Myths and Legends

David Arkenstone has to be one of the most interesting and complex contemporary-instrumental musicians of our time. Bringing together classical, world, classic rock, and new age music, he creates exquisite multi-layered electronica unlike anything else I've heard. Or seen.

Of Myths and Legends , he says: “This was quite an ambitious project, even for me! The accompanying DVD contains videos for all the songs - impossible without the help of my dear friend Johnny Wilson, and the bonus CD is sort of an ambient accompaniment to the main CD. The fun begins when you play them on two different players in two different locations. They don't have to be exactly synched.”

Though Arkenstone is primarily a keyboardist, he has also “mastered” guitar, flute, percussion, and many other instruments. He brings it all together to create a lush landscape, with highly textured electroacoustic instrumentals enfolding you in a panoply of ever-changing scenes. One moment you're drifting on a moody sea, and the next you're caught up in a celebratory march… and yet the transition is seamless.

Originally inspired by Kitaro, this Chicago transplant migrated to California to compose music. The release of his debut recording, “Valley In The Clouds”, in 1987 launched Arkenstone's career and yielded him three Grammy Award nominations, sixteen solo recordings, and over a million records sold.
