Herbs, Plants and Tomatomania at
Quail Gardens March 12 & 13
This year Quail Botanical Gardens will combine the 9th Annual Herb Festival and Spring Plant Sale with Tomatomania - a celebration of all things tomato. The event will be held March 12 and 13, 9am-4pm, 230 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas. Call 760/436-3036 x206 for more information.
Festivities will include over 20 speakers and many demonstrations, Herb walks, An array of herbal products, a selection of spring and summer plants for sale from San Diego's premier growers and...Tomatomania!
This year marks the first annual observance of Tomatomania in the San Diego area and the 15th annual event of its kind in Southern California. The World Tour of Tomatoes ‘05 is the world's largest heirloom tomato seedling sale. Held in Encino in past years, the event comes to Quail Gardens as an accompaniment to the 9th annual Herb Festival and Spring Plant Sale.
Herb Festival speakers include Andy Lopez - “Don't Panic, It's Organic”, Robert Bonakdar, MD - “Natural Supplements for Pain” and Tony Kienitz - “The Year I Ate My Yard”.

SDG&E Offering Energy Rebates
January's cold and wet weather has meant increased use of home furnaces to stay warm and dry. That usage and the nationwide increase in natural gas prices, says San Diego Gas & the nationwide increase in natural gas prices, says San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), means higher natural gas bills for most customers.
As customers use their heaters to fight the lower temperatures, SDG&E wants to remind eligible customers about rebates of up to $200 for purchase and installation of qualified new energy-efficient appliances or home improvement products that can help customer lower energy bills.
The rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis through the end of the year, or until funds are depleted. Before buying qualifying products, customers are encouraged to verify rebate availability by calling SDG&E toll-free at 800/644-6133.
SDG&E offers customers these helpful tips to manage their winter gas bills: Focus on the furnace. Lower the furnace thermostat 3 degrees to 5 degrees (health permitting). Turn it off when not at home. Check furnace filters every month during the heating season and clean or replace the filter when necessary.
When installing a new or cleaned filter, be sure to reinstall the front panel door of the furnace properly so it fits snugly. And, never operate the furnace without the front-panel door properly in place because doing so my create the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Install a programmable thermostat and consider adding another blanket or two at night to stay warm.
Sign up for a home energy-efficiency analysis. This free home energy survey is available online or by mail and can help customers learn where their home is using the most energy. SDG&E responds with a report with specific recommendations for more efficient use of energy.
In-home audits are available for a limited basis. Sign up for energy assistance. The California Alternate Rate for Energy (CARE) Program provides a 20-percent discounted rate to income-qualified customers.

Rhythms of the World Opens March 18 at Reuben Fleet Center
This IMAX film from the creators of the highly successful live stage show, STOMP, is a celebration of the global beat. Audiences will meet a variety of groups from diverse areas, such as the Brazilian percussion group, Timbalada; the KODO drummers of Japan; the Flamenco music and dance of Spain; an even England's Winchester Cathedral Bellringers.

Iala takes us through her journey. It is not necessarily chronological or for that matter linear logical but still manages to touch on visions that just won't quit, a near death experience, and close encounters of the touching kind with wolves and eccentrics. All the while she tumbles mightily from the mountain of “I know it all” to the valley of “I haven't got a clue!”
