A Meeting with Bo Lozoff
“The cause of all our personal problems and nearly all the problems of the world can be summed up in a single sentence: Human life is very deep and our modern dominant lifestyle is not.” — Bo Lozoff
Bo Lozoff, founder of Human Kindness Foundation and the internationally acclaimed Prison-Ashram Project, is an award winning author of several books, including We're All Doing Time, hailed by The Village Voice as “one of the ten books everyone in the world should read.” He and his wife, Sita, have practiced intensively in the world's Great Traditions since 1966.
Bo Lozoff is a man whose simple actions have influenced the lives of countless people, profoundly changing their view of the world and inspiring hopeful communities. After spending a year in silence, Bo has decided to embark on a speaking tour across the U.S. San Diego audiences will have the opportunity to hear him speak and sing on Sunday March 19. 2–4 PM , Bard Hall, First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego, 4190 Front Street in Hillcrest. The event and parking are free. A love donation is welcomed. In the early 1970s, Lozoff, after visiting a relative in prison, decided to initiate a Yoga and meditation program in prisons.
With the help of spiritual teacher Ram Dass, the program quickly grew into the now internationally acclaimed Prison Ashram Project. The project encourages prisoners and prison staff to recognize their depth as human beings, to behave accordingly, using the prison as an ashram, the Sanskrit word for “house of God.” By seeing the deeper nature in each person, especially in those who have violated our sense of safety, we can dramatically improve the quality of life for everyone. On Monday March 20 he will speak at San Diego Correctional Facility.

A Glimpse of the Transcendent
Zen Master Dennis Genpo Merzel will present a Big Mind workshop in San Diego on March 14, 7–9pm at the Church of the Brethren, 3850 Westgate. Big Mind is an inner exploration process where participants interact with Genpo Roshi in a group dialogue format to discover and explore transcendent states of being.
Genpo Roshi's lively and direct approach helps people circumvent thought and mental busyness to rest directly in Big Mind and Big Heart, states that are innate, yet beyond the scope of ordinary experience until they are pointed out and encouraged. Like finding buried gold, the experience is enriching, and often very powerful and healing. The program is non-denominational and people of all religious and non-religious affiliations have participated in the workshops. Those with a regular prayer or meditation practice report greater depth in their practice after having experienced Big Mind.
The Big Mind process combines Genpo Roshi's 35 years as a Zen teacher and the insights of western psychology. He has presented workshops to many thousands of participants in America and Europe . He is the author of the DVD Big Mind / Big Heart Revealed and four books, most recently The Path of the Human Being, Zen Teachings on the Bodhisattva Way . His book The Eye Never Sleeps has been translated into seven languages.
The workshop is $10 at the door. For information contact Seisen at 619-477-0390 or call 801-328-8414 or visit www.bigmind.org

A new online merchandise mart called Omega-Mart.net has an amazing goal — to cure world hunger. The site is geared toward helping the needy by donating 95 percent of all net profits to help eliminate hunger.
“I truly believe that God has given me the answer for ending world hunger and poverty. I'm in the right place, America , and free from persecution and I have the right instrument to do this — the Internet.
More money has been made on the Web in a brief period than any other medium in the history of mankind!” states the site's owner, Walter M. Fairley.
Fairley plans to donate the proceeds on a continual basis to various major relief efforts including INSP (Convoy of Hope), TBN (Katrina relief and help for the needy in America and around the world), CBN (Operation Blessing), and also Feed the Children. The donations will be made online to each organization individually. Instead of making a one-time donation, Fairley plans to continue these donations until world hunger is eliminated.
