The $Best Freebies & Bargains and Deals & Steals in San Diego

Now, here's a book that serves as an stimulus package for San Diegans. Emblazoned right on the front cover , The words “This book is like a pay raise” on the front cover make it a surefire pick-up-and-read. Page after page, it's chock-full of helpful information on how to get everything in your life for free or significantly less than you'd expect to pay. And in some cases, Sally even tells you how you can get paid for going after what you want.

Chapter 1, “Goods & Services for Less,” is packed with steals on everything from antiques to clothing (tons of details on the best ways to shop major stores as well as the underground world of shopping including resale, liquidation, factory outlets, wholesale, discount stores, deluxe rummage sales, and more). Bicycles, insurance, plumbing, wallpaper… pretty much anything your heart desires. And Chapter 2 gives you tips on how to negotiate a better price and how to complain and get results if you're not satisfied with the product or service.

Looking for hot deals on leisure activities? How about travel and cruise deals? Chapters 3, 4 and 5 will make you smile. Love dining out for less? See Chapter 11, which includes 2-for-1s, birthday freebies and great happy hours.

For the more serious side of life, I've found Chapter 6 helpful. It's all about health and medical bargains (including spas)—super info for those of us who find ourselves on the outside looking in when it comes to health insurance. Chapters 7 and 8 will bring you up to speed on employment information and legal and educational bargains, and Chapter 10 will brighten your day with ideas for raising quick cash!

This is a book both locals and visitors to the area will find indispensable. It's a great resource, well organized and indexed, but it's also fun reading… and who knows when something you read might be helpful to a friend, or even save a life? Sally Gary's been around San Diego a long time, and not much has escaped her notice. This is the ninth annual edition of this book, and it gets better every year. Grab yourself a copy and stretch out your spending power. This book will pay for itself many times over. Not a bad idea in this economy, don'tcha know.
