Tips for Helping Your Kids Cope with the Fires

Ken Druck is a clinical psychologist and author. During the recent fires he put this story on-line. We thought it good information to have at any time on talking with children during stressful time. Go to www.howtotalktoyourkids.com for further information on helping children through a crisis and to order his book, How to Talk to Your Kids about School Violence.

For the past few days we have literally been under siege with wild fires.  With reports of “zero containment,” fires raged out of control.  Both children and adults also feel out of control in the face of this disaster.  While adults have experience to draw from and can put things in perspective, children often find themselves defenseless against fear and anxiety.

In the Face of Fires, Solar Energy Conference Offers Hope for Future

Two weeks ago, I received an email from Steve Hays, the
editor and publisher of this magazine, asking me if I had the time and interest to help him out with his Solar Energy column this month: an event he wanted very much to cover was happening during The Light Connection's final production week; and he simply couldn't cover it a much as he wished to. Solar Energy Week 2007 put on by the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE) from Oct. 21-27. Sunday would be a Family Solar Energy Day, then on Tuesday, there would be a tour of commercial properties around the county that had either been built with or converted to solar.

A Message from Michael
Beyond The Secret

The founder of the Agape International Spiritual Center, Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith, recently headlined a sold-out event at Unity Village, along with his wife, musician and artistic director Rickie Byars Beckwith (pictured here with him). In this exclusive interview with Unity's Daily Word editor, Colleen Zuck, he talks about his life, his message—and oh, yes, that best-selling DVD and book in which he was a featured teacher, The Secret.

Snatum “at Home”

The Light Connection: Could you start out by telling our readers something about where you come from as a performer, and what your mission is as a performer?

Snatam: I grew up in the Kundalini Yoga and Sikh traditions, raised by parents who were Sikh and who practiced that form of Yoga. Our household embraced those two lifestyles into one, so we had a daily yoga practice and learned early on to incorporate praise of God through music into our daily lives. That's really how I grew up, with this combination of Sikh and of Kundalini, which is the yoga of awareness and also of empowerment—one of my favorite quotes from Yogi Bhajan is: “If you want to be enlightened, then be a light...”

Transformational Talk
Ashamed of suffering?

Are you ashamed of suffering? For many, encountering physical or emotional pain is a double whammy. First, there's the pain and then there's the shame about being in pain. Your pain becomes a mark of failure'– you think,” If I were just more enlightened or better able to focus my intentions this would never have happened.

Human Design —
A New Esoteric System for the Aquarian Age

As we live through increasingly complex times with an ever expanding multiplicity of demands upon our time, energy and resources, a quiet revolution is evolving among the people of planet earth. We want our lives back. In the confusion and disappointment of modern life, millions have sought answers through various self-help processes and esoteric systems, and we have found answers, often significant ones that have really helped us to better understand and accept our lives, but we have not yet unlocked the key to complete inner freedom and joy.

The Oneness Movement – Enlightenment for Everybody?

Out of southern India comes a spiritual phenomenon that seems to be spreading like wildfire around San Diego County, North America and the world. It is known as the Oneness Movement, and its calling card is known as “deeksha” or “The Oneness Blessing.”

Deeksha is actually an ancient tradition referring to a transfer of divine energy given by a guru to a disciple. The founders of The Oneness Movement, Sri Amma and Sri Bhagavan, are considered by many to be avatars, a Hindu term for deities that have descended to earth in bodily form. In 2002 they founded Oneness University near Chennai, India, to train people to give deeksha to others.
