Scorpio entails three stages of psychological evolution
On Oct. 22, the sun entered Scorpio, taking us into the depths of personal transformation, which involves letting go of the old so something new can be born. Scorpio is a fixed, receptive water sign, making it tenacious, sensitive, psychically attuned, and deeply feeling, yet very strong. While the other signs have one symbol to represent them, Scorpio is the only of the twelve astrological signs to have three symbols. They are the scorpion, the eagle and the phoenix, and they represent the three main stages of psychological evolution; the lower, ego-driven desire nature, the questing mind and heart striving to live a principled life, and the soul reaching for enlightenment, the transformed self. Our values are under deep scrutiny. Everything we may have believed to be true and everything we may have counted on as substantial is in question. If sincerely pursued, questioning leads to answers and the answers that come in Scorpio are profound. Now is the time to dig deep.
Planetary aspects converge to bring big changes
As the day dawns on Nov. 3, Venus, the planet representing love, values and money forms a dynamic and tense aspect with the planet of limitations and “karma”, Saturn. By the end of the day, Venus forms the same tense aspect with Uranus, the planet of unrest and revolution. If that does not provide enough tension to have the world holding its breath, the day begins on Nov. 4 with Mars, the planet representing our livelihood, being challenged by visionary and mystical Neptune, and we will either be metaphorically watching our dreams go up in smoke, or having clear insight and spiritual guidance into the road ahead. Most significantly, on November 4, an aspect that has been building for several months becomes exact, releasing huge amounts of tension. Something must give as the agent of unexpected change and awakening to higher states of consciousness, Uranus, finds itself in exact, direct opposition to the planet that holds the status quo, Saturn.
A newvision frames the US elections
Of course the world will be watching this drama playing out as the realities of the US elections unfold on this remarkable day. Clearly the question is, will America choose a traditional (Saturn) path, giving the world more of the same, or will there be a breakthrough, a sudden rising to a new vision, a wholly new and innovative (Uranus) way chosen? Astrologers are often asked to predict events, something that is really difficult to do; at best one arrives at an educated guess, (which does often yield outstanding results). But this election has many unstable factors and elements of change that can tip the scales. I have studied both McCain and Obama's astrology charts and my best guess is that Obama takes it. Whatever happens, lets' all pray and hold positive intention for America to heal, to be strong again, to be in integrity again, to become the enlightened leader of world peace that has always been its potential.
The full moon highlights big visions—releasing the old
On Nov. 12, we have a full moon in Taurus opposite the sun in Scorpio, highlighting huge changes for our world, as well as for us in our personal lives. This is an exciting time, filled with big vision, innovative ideas, practical solutions, industrious work, and a sense of shared values and goals. The full moon highlights our need to let go of all that no longer serves us. Release the old so the new can come into being. Letting go of old ideas about your identity and purpose may seem hard to do, but if you trust, you may find that you are much more magnificent than you ever imagined! Do your inner work now while the sun in Scorpio supports it.
The sun in Sagittarius asks profound questions
On Nov. 21, the sun completes its transit through Scorpio, entering the jovial and expansive sign of Sagittarius. While the sun is in Sag, we take the essence of the deep learning from our Scorpio journey and begin to put what we have learned into practice. We also tend to play more! Sagittarius is a positive and mutable fire sign that inspires us to look beyond ourselves, all the way to the heavens, to discover our meaning in life. It asks the profound questions, “What is our purpose, our relationship to life, to God?”” Two planets, Mars and Mercury, join the sun and moon in Sagittarius at the new moon on Nov. 27, as they kick off a new cycle of exploration and expansion into new arenas.
