Sun Signs For October 2005
By Carolina Eastwood
The sun enters Libra at the Autumn Equinox
The sun entered Libra on September 22, marking the Autumnal Equinox, and bringing a flurry of activity as our lives begin to change direction. Cooler weather and brisk winds bring a hint of the coming winter, inspiring us to begin gathering our resources. Libra is the sign of the scales, symbolizing balance, and as such, symbolizes significant relationships, business partnerships, and administers justice. The telltale cry of the Libra child is, “...but it's not fair !” Libras seek harmony, sometimes at any price. People born with the sun, moon or rising sign in Libra are relationship oriented, often attuned to the arts, and great appreciators of beauty in all of its forms.
Mars curtails some activities for review of values
October begins with two important planetary events. First, the planet of action, Mars, turns retrograde (apparent backwards motion) in Taurus on October 1. Each planet represents a specific human function, and when retrograde, that function slows down and becomes more introverted and reflective. While Mars is retrograde from October 1 until December 9, we review our values associated with work, and focus on improving our ethics in business. Retrograde Mars will compel us to complete existing projects before creating new ones, and, for some of us, the retrograde Mars may signal a major career or job change. With Mars retrograding in Taurus, we may also need to review our financial status, investments, and outstanding debts in order to get current. Planetary aspects to Mars suggest we learn the importance of fair practices in all transactions, and they also suggest our being in touch with our highest guiding principles as we go about our daily affairs.
Solar Eclipse in Libra brings changes in relationships
On the new moon of October 3 we have an almost total solar eclipse in Libra, signaling dynamic changes in our most important relationships. Specifically, this eclipse addresses past beliefs about love and patterns of relating that no longer serve us, or our partners. The planet of higher spiritual realities, Neptune, forms a favorable triangle to the solar eclipse, promising that, as we become more universally attuned, we awaken to the reality that we are all One, and this knowledge changes the character of our relationships. We no longer separate “strangers” from friends, and a deep love for all humanity dawns in our hearts. Contrary to popular fears, this awareness makes our most intimate relationships more precious as we let go of possessiveness and begin to love with a totality and clarity previously unavailable to us.
Full moon eclipse brings changes
On October 17, as the full moon of Aries opposes the sun in Libra, we have a lunar eclipse, which brings a change in the nature, or the form, of our expression. Illuminating several planetary aspects that culminated around October 14, the full moon reveals part of our human nature that tends to be unreliable in relationships and seeks to control our experience. The planet of “karma,” or life's lessons, Saturn, helps us to stabilize our more primal motivations, and rise to a higher expression by urging us to speak our truth and trust in the natural flow of life. The great teacher, Jupiter, assists as the sun in Libra joins it to receive inspiration and deep understanding of universal laws and principles.
The Sun and Jupiter enter transformative Scorpio
During the sun's transit of Libra this year, we are given the opportunity to clarify our values, let go of old, less rewarding ways of relating, and step into a higher frequency of love. The sun completes its journey through Libra, entering the sign of transformation, Scorpio, on October 23. Jupiter follows, after having spent a year in Libra, and begins its 13-month stay in Scorpio on October 25. Accentuated in the last week of October by Jupiter's presence, the sun in Scorpio takes us into the depths of our subconscious drives, illuminating parts of our nature that are ready for healing or transformation, as well as revealing parts of our nature that have transcended the ego and stand united in Spirit, ready to be of service.
