The China Study
by T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D., Benbella Books, 2004; 417 pages; ISBN 1-932100-38-5; 800-888-4741
The subtitle of this book is The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted . It could also have been called The Cure for All Western Diseases because it not only pinpoints the causes of the most prominent and feared of our ailments, but also provides excellent guidance on how to prevent them, reverse them, and maintain optimum health. What more could you ask from such a book? A lot, and this one delivers. |

|
Besides being a monumental study with a practical interpretation, it clearly links all the so-called “Western diseases” directly to diet, with exercise being a strong partner in the health picture. Heart disease, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, autoimmune diseases, obesity, and others are tackled with rigor and even humor.
But why use China as the base for this study? Because China has a huge population with the most diverse eating habits on the planet, including Westernized diets. Plus—and this is of utmost importance—it has the most genetically homogenous population on the planet, with 87% being of the same ethnic group, the Han people.
Therefore, this study puts genetic factors in the background and concentrates, as exclusively as possible, on dietary and activity habits of the sample groups. What were the results? You'll have to read the book, which is written in a friendly, intelligent way that makes the study interesting as well as informative.
What can be said is that vegetarians will rejoice at this book. Now they have a scientific study that they can show to their carnivorous friends that proves the link between consumption of animal protein and Western diseases.

Inside Poop
America’s leading colon therapist defies conventional
medical wisdom about your health and well-being
By Scott W. Webb; Authorhouse; 2006; 191 pages; $16.95 (pbk);
ISBN 1-4259-0211-1; www.authorhouse.com; 888-280-7715
You were born knowing how to take a good poop, right? So what happened? If you're one of the few adults around whose body hasn't forgotten and you don't have any other health issues, you may not need this book. Otherwise, I highly recommend you get your hands on it! |
 |
Oops! Scott Webb is not a doctor. So… what? So… he never got fitted for A.M.A. blinders and doesn't augment his continuing education with propaganda from pharmaceutical company reps. Instead, he has spent the last five years learning what really works in his thriving private practice as a colon hygienist. And now he is passing on that information to us, so we can all give our bodies a chance to catch up with what they came into this world knowing.
Inside Poop is a real education, a holist's view of how many aspects of modern living affect our ability to eliminate toxins— and what we can do about it. Written in layman's language, it paints a clear picture of the relationships between liver bile production, natural intestinal bacteria, good fats, pharmaceuticals, PCBs, and the failure of high-fiber diets to help us digest those remnants of nutritional supplements found in a typical stool, on the one hand, and ailments like colon cancer, allergies, bladder infections, high cholesterol, acne, heart disease, candida, food poisoning, chronic fatigue syndrome and liver disease on the other.
The book also makes it clear where the responsibility for our health lies. You guessed it! With you and me. Not because our doctors want us to get sick and come to see them more often, but because their education, conditioning and contacts with the pharmaceutical industry prevent them from seeing the whole picture.
There is no way I can do justice to the scope of this book in a short review. Buy it. Read it. And decide for yourself.
