Sanctum Art Gallery Opens in Encinitas October 2

On North Coast Highway 101, Encinitas, Sanctum Art Gallery represents more than a marriage of diverse ideas; it's a labor of love for local residents and gallery owners Suzanne De Cayette and Marcus Nadel.

Through the marriage of image and scent, Marcus and Suzanne create artwork designed to promote relaxation and custom-made essential oil blends formulated to promote health and wellbeing. The result is what they call “Aromartherapy.”

“Of course we'd like our patrons to shop, but we want to afford them a sanctuary as well, where they can stop in, sip a cup of herbal tea, play with our puppy and simply enjoy the calming aura of the gallery,” says Suzanne.

Acknowledging their community connections and personal relationship, Marcus adds, “Sanctum represents a marriage of ideas and people.”

Suzanne and Marcus intend to provide the community with a venue that celebrates art, health and wellness by also offering books and gift items. The community is invited to showcase their artwork, speak at poetry nights and take classes on holistic wellbeing, aromatherapy and more. Contact Suzanne at 760/672-6224.

'10 Questions for the Dalai Lama' Film Showing Oct 20 in San Diego

A lone filmmaker is granted one hour to ask ten questions of the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. How do you reconcile a commitment to non-violence when faced with violence? Why do the poor often seem happier than the rich? Must a society lose its traditions in order to move into the future? These are some of the questions posed by filmmaker and explorer Rick Ray.

Ray examines some of the fundamental questions of our time by weaving together observations from his own journeys through India and the Middle East with the wisdom of this extraordinary spiritual leader. Also included is rare historical footage, some supplied by individuals who—at great personal risk—filmed with hidden cameras. Part biography, part philosophy, part adventure and part politics, “10 Questions for The Dalai Lama” conveys more than history and more than answers - it opens a window into the heart of an inspiring man.

This film is part of the Weekend of Unity and Peace: Saturday, October 20, 7pm at San Diego Center for Spiritual Living, New School of Architecture Building, 1249 F Street (corner of Park Blvd.), Downtown San Diego, CA 92101. Tickets: $10 Adults, $7 Seniors/Students with ID. Info: office@downtowncc.org or call: 619/491-3087 or visit: www.sdcsl.org
