Libra at the Autumnal Equinox
Leaves turning rich reds, yellows, golds and browns, a new crispness in the air, and the sun setting earlier on the western horizon signal the arrival of the autumn season. The Autumnal Equinox on Sep. 23 marks the time when the days and nights are of equal length and the Sun enters Libra, the sign of balance. Midway through the zodiac, in Libra we arrive at a turning point in the natural progression, or development of life. No longer are we simply aware of our own personal concerns; now we become aware of the other. We enter relationship.
Libra people express fairness, love and justice
A masculine, cardinal, air sign, Libra epitomizes the qualities of balance, fairness, beauty, justice and harmony. On a personal level, it seeks relatedness, as Libra's ruling planet is Venus, the goddess of love. Those born with the sun, moon, or rising sign in Libra are generally loving, kind, and even-mannered, but if Libra feels that there has been foul-play, watch out for their temper! A soul chooses a lifetime through Libra when the desire for personal growth and fulfillment can best be realized through the rich landscape of personal relationship. Changes stimulated by September eclipses
We enter October with much to do, as we just experienced two powerful eclipses in September that brought an awareness of the need and desire for significant changes into our lives. Occurring along the Virgo-Pisces axis, the two eclipses stimulated changes in the way we interact within our environment, our experience of spirituality, and how we manage our daily lives, especially in terms of diet, hygiene and exercise. As the sun moves through Libra, it is time to implement those changes.
Saturn in Virgo requires discipline and improvements
Saturn, the planet known is astrological lore as “the Lord of karma”, but better understood in modern terms as the planetary energy that holds in place the laws of the physical world, laws such as time, gravity, and cause-and-effect, has recently entered Virgo. Taking approximately 28 years to complete one revolution around our sun, Saturn stays in each astrological sign for about two and one-half years, and people born with Saturn in Virgo will be experiencing either a first or second Saturn return (around age 28-30 and 56-60, respectively), and those born with the sun, moon or rising sign in Virgo will also be challenged in some significant way. But Saturn in Virgo affects us all, asking for greater discipline, refinement and improvements on many levels.
Saturn in Virgo brings scrutiny of our values and motivations
This month, Saturn in Virgo joins Venus, and connects with the nodal axis, or point in space that reflects to us our current life-lessons and purpose. This phenomenon increases the significance of Saturn in Virgo for all of us during the month of October. Planetary energies associated with life-purpose are currently calling us to drop our fascination with the ego, connect with our inner spiritual wisdom, and follow the guidance that comes directly from Spirit. For most of us, this means we will need to utilize Saturn in Virgo's relentless scrutiny to examine our values and motivations in everything we do, to look deeply at what is driving each choice we make. This takes courage, but the reward is a life lived in simplicity, truth and love, which is enormously satisfying.
Challenges to the false ego result in choices
It is also imperative that we do this work, as humanity has come to a very important turning point, in which it will become increasingly clear that we do indeed create our own reality, and that the only thing the ego is capable of creating is the nightmare of war, abuse, famine, pollution, and disease in its pursuit of the ridiculous goal of individual supremacy (“ego' here is defined as the part of ourselves that persists in the illusion that we are separate from, and bereft of God's presence, thus compelled to act to protect “number one” ). When we choose instead to trust in life, trust in Spirit, and know that we are One with all, not only do our individual lives transform, becoming full of meaning and bliss, but we participate in a global awakening of unprecedented magnitude.
Positive aspects help us redefine values, relationships
As the sun makes its way through Libra this month, forming a very positive aspect with the planet of spirituality and transcendent love, Neptune, we have the opportunity to redefine our values, heal our relationships, bring truth and simplicity into our communications, and align our purpose with the greater good for humanity. On Oct. 10, we have a new moon in Libra that reflects these principles and holds the possibility for a leap of faith and a transformation of consciousness. All the planets in our solar system will be aligned to this purpose, and we simply need to choose love. Do not expect great occurrences, as this is an inner, subtle, yet profound shift of perspective that will be followed in the coming times by life-changes, only to the extent that we continually hold the new frequency.
Mercury brings review of motivations & commitments
Immediately following the new moon, on Oct. 11, Mercury, the planet of communication, turns retrograde (apparent backwards motion) in Scorpio, the sign of transformation. This gives us a three-week window of time for review of our motivations, our inner state of being, our choices, and our commitments. The opportunity to find our wisdom through this time of inner reflection is supported by several very favorable planetary linkages, suggesting innovative breakthroughs, deep understanding, and practical, yet inspired actions.
Sun in Scorpio aligns our soul-path
The sun exits Libra, entering the fixed, feminine, water sign of Scorpio on Oct. 23. As we venture into Pluto's domain, we are taken deeper into self-exploration, this time with the intent of experiencing inner communion with our Higher Self, leading us to our inner Spirit Being. Saturn in Virgo contributes to the push in this direction as it forms an exact connection with our soul path, also on Oct. 23. On Oct. 25 a full moon in Taurus, opposite the sun in Scorpio, highlights our journey into the depths of healing and transformation. The last week of October invites us into one of the most important choice points a person can enter. Do you choose love?
Aries – The new moon on Oct. 10 falls in the relationship arena of your chart, igniting interest in either new love, or in developing the more positive aspects of your current relationships. You spend time looking into the future with a partner, and aligning your vision for the life you wish to create. You may be contemplating a change that involves higher education, spirituality or travel. If possible, make your plans before Mercury goes retrograde on the 11.
Taurus – To bring your life into greater balance, your will be implementing new daily work habits and health routines. This is necessary for you to fulfill the dreams you have for your future, and to manage your career effectively. Changes are needed in your handling of mutual financial agreements and investments to ensure continued future success. To bring your life into greater balance, devote more time to and have fun this month with children, relatives, and your life partner this month.
Gemini – Developing a little more discipline with finances and in the organization of your home life will give you the support you need to launch new career objectives. Be sure to get plans and contracts in place before Oct. 11. If you stay focused on your objectives, money should start flowing better, empowering you to move forward gracefully. The new moon brings fun with children or creative projects and heightened spiritual–awareness.
Cancer – Your home and family life gets extra attention form you this month as the new moon on the 11 brings extra attention to this area of your life. An ongoing process of soul searching and spiritual seeking gets rewarded this month with breakthroughs in understanding.
Leo – The new moon Oct. 11 highlights friendships, relatives, and brings a deeper understanding, acceptance and appreciation of your life partner, or those with whom you have the closest contact. An environment of open communication and loving support helps to clarify many issues, and serves you well in implementing long-needed changes in your financial planning. Virgo – This month, you are working deeply with your values, learning to balance your own desires with what is fair and truly workable for others.
