Flowing with Shiva
Sacred Songs – Chanting– Mantras
By: Bhava Ram; 2009; $15.00; www.deepyoga.com
The title track of this wondrous CD was reportedly composed on the banks of the Ganges River in Rishikesh, India. You can feel the river flowing, soft and compassionate, tuned in to the souls on its banks and in its waters.

Flowing with Shiva is Bhava Ram's first CD, but you wouldn't know it. His masterful instrumentation blends impeccably with his heartfelt vocals (Sundari Ram's backup vocals are beautiful, too) to create a soothing, calming ambiance perfect for relaxation or yoga.
The flavor is a blend of India and America, delicious guitar and English lyrics weaving their way in and out of traditional Sanskrit chants. The album cover credits Bhava and Sundari's yoga students, “who have chanted them in class with open hearts and soaring souls,” for the inspiration for all but the title song.
There's even a version of John Lennon's “Imagine,” interlaced with bits of other lyrical treasures and the “yes we can” of Obama's Presidential campaign. Imagine all the people, Om Mani Padme Hum.
I hope you will be kind to yourself and someone you love by buying two of these superb albums. You both deserve it, don't you. (That's not a question).
The CD is no more a miracle than Bhava himself. After 25 years as an award winning broadcast journalist, an accident left him with a broken back. A failed surgery rendered him crippled and in severe chronic pain, which cost him his career and any ability to work. Several years after that, he was diagnosed with a rare and fatal form of throat cancer; Western doctors gave him no more than two years to live. Nearly two years later, on the brink of death, Bhava found yoga and healed both his broken back and “terminal” cancer. He now devotes his life to sharing the miracle of self-healing with others.
Bhava Ram will perform songs from his album at the ‘Sacred Chant Concert' with Snatam Kaur and Guru Ganesha Singh on Saturday, November 14, at the Corky McMillin Event Center in Point Loma, San Diego. More information & tickets: www.SnatamTickets.com.
