Update on the Dolphin Cove, Japan
Last month The Light Connection published a news story about the documentary film The Cove. It is a film about the annual killing of more than 23,000 dolphins in a cove in Taiji in Japan. The film makers risked their lives to document on film the dolphin slaughter as it happened. Leading the film crew to prepare and implement this task was Richard O'Barry who trained and starred in the 70's television show Flipper. The annual slaughter of the dolphins has traditionally started every year the first of Sept. Richard O'Barry and many others traveled to Japan to be present on the first of Sept to intervene and bring media attention to this annual atrocity.
We received an email from Richard with a very happy update as to the situation. These words just in from Ric O'Barry who is right now in Taiji: “Happiest news flash ever! The killings at the Cove, which should have started yesterday, Sept 1, have been halted. There are no dolphins in the cove!! As I write this, I am crying tears of relief. Now we pray that this is not just a suspension of the killings, but an ending to them once and for all. Today is September 1st, the first day of the dolphin slaughter season in Japan. But when I arrived today by bus from Kansai Airport with media representatives from all over the world, the notorious Cove from the movie was empty. There were no dolphin killers in sight. ...And as I was talking with the police, as the international journalists stood around listening, suddenly a camera crew arrived from Japan! And then another! And then still another! You have to understand that this is SO IMPORTANT. These TV stations have REFUSED to cover the story in Taiji for years and years. NOW, for the first time, they have shown up, with cameras rolling. People, this is history. Thank you to everyone who helped with my event. We have saved thousands of lives. Please stay tuned as this story is breaking.”

Wayne Dyer's Film The Shift at Vision Center 10/21
On Wed, Oct 21 Vision: A Center for Spiritual Living will present Wayne Dyer's new film The Shift at 7pm. The Shift is a story of three lives in crisis leading to that most important moment in one's life when the choice is made to start living a life rich in meaning and begin playing the music you came here to play.
In his first-ever movie, Wayne Dyer explores the spiritual journey in the second half of life when we long to find the purpose that is our unique contribution to the world. The powerful shift from the ego constructs we are taught early in life by parents and society, promotes an emphasis on achievement and accumulation, to a life focused on serving and giving back. “ The Shift is a movie that touches your soul... Wayne Dyer's message lingers with you long after the final credits” (Louise Hay)

Find Smoke Free Restaurant Patios
To mark San Diego Restaurant Week, the Tobacco-Free Communities Coalition have offered solutions to those who get secondhand smoke as an unwanted side dish on the dining patio, consisting of an online listing of restaurants and some easy-going tips to use at favorite restaurants when the patio smoke gets to be too much.
For those who want smoke-free patios, a new listing of restaurants that have voluntarily committed to smoke-free dining patios is now available at www.SmokeFreeSanDiego.org.
“This is our way of saluting restaurants that are voluntarily making their dining patios smoke-free as a service to customers and a safeguard for the health of their employees,” said Dannah Hosford, Chair, Tobacco Free Communities Coalition (TFCC). She encouraged restaurants that have policies to go to the site and make sure that they are listed. She also offered some tips for diners about practical steps for making patio dining more pleasant and healthy for all. “Speak with the restaurant management if the smoke at a nearby table is offensive,” she advised.
California voters know that secondhand smoke is harmful and they support less smoking in outdoor areas of bars and restaurants:
• 88% believe that secondhand smoke is harmful to those who inhale it in outdoor areas.
• 60% have been bothered by secondhand smoke in outdoor dining areas in the past year.
• 56% support restricting smoking in the outdoor areas of bars and restaurants.
