Dance of the 21 Praises of Tara Workshop in SD Sep 23-25

Direct from recent workshops by His Holiness the Dalai lama, Prema Dasar and Abnahata Uradah will be teaching The Dance of the 21 Praises of Tara . Prema Dasar has traveled the world for 14 years teaching this dance. The workshop is a practice of meditation. The music is moving and meditative. Based on the ancient Tibetan practice of praising and embodying the Great Goddess Tara, the mother of Compassion and Wisdom. Besides The Dalai Lama, many great Lama's of all the lineage's of Tibetan Buddhism have given their blessings and offered their prayers that the dance be shared as widely as possible.

The Dalai Lama says, “There are 21 different manifestation of Tara and each having a different purposes. Some for long life, wealth, to cure illness, expel evil spirits, rescue from poisons. This is the practice and understanding of Tara on a deeper level. When you learn to perform the dance of Tara you must first create positive motivation, compassionate motivation, as a sense of caring a sense of concern. With that motivation you will find when the performance is taking place, there will be some kind of feeling of blessings from Tara. It will certainly bring a positive atmosphere, a vibration. It does not matter whether the members of the dance or audience are believers or non believers. There will be some kind of vibration, invisible energy experienced.”

Attend the free Introductory Workshop Friday, 9/23, 6:30-9pm. The Dance Workshop runs Saturday, 9/24, 10am-6pm through Sunday 9/25, 9am-1pm. Student Performance will be Sunday, 4:30-6:30pm for family and friends. Event will be held at the Copley YMCS Gym, 3901 Landis Street, San Diego. Workshop is $225 and performance tickets $10. Spiritual Discovery Training Center Announces Fall Season Events

The Spiritual Discovery™ Training Center (SDTC) kicks off its fall season with an open invitation to everyone to come enjoy, learn, and have fun. Directed by owner and spiritual/metaphysical community leader Linda Berry, the SDTC has had an overwhelmingly successful spring and summer season, which brought people from all over the San Diego area, as well as surrounding counties, cities, and states, to attend spiritual, metaphysical, and holistic courses, workshops, and seminars.

Some of the most popular events were the Spiritual Healing Seminars conducted by Mother Sarita (mother of don Miguel Ruiz, author of The Four Agreements) and the astrological training offered by SDTC professional astrologers Linda Berry and Jim Shawvan, both of whom recently took positions on the board of the San Diego Chapter of NCGR (National Council for Geocosmic Research). Linda will be serving as president and Jim as treasurer of this chapter of the world-renowned astrological organization which certifies professional astrologers at four levels of expertise. The local meetings will be held at SDTC, with the fall meeting on Monday, October 24th, offering a panel of local professional astrologers discussing the warrior planet Mars. NCGR certification training will also be held at SDTC, with the fall seminar being held on Saturday and Sunday, November 5th and 6th.

Other events starting this fall at SDTC include the basic tarot course with professional tarot reader Deanna Rose. Professional astrologer Jim Shawvan will teach a predictive astrology course, a Solar Fire software workshop, an electional and horary workshop, and an NCGR certification training seminar.

Linda has also been working toward starting only the second college of astrology in the entire country, to be located here in the San Diego area. Berry states, “I want to provide a educational center that cannot only train professional astrologers but also offer them degrees in the profession. In other countries and cultures, astrology is an occupation that is just as important as being a doctor or a lawyer. I would like to see this profession lifted to the same recognition here in our country as well.”

To find out more about SDTC events, Linda Berry and the other instructors see monthly ad in Calendar, call 619-507-6395, or go to spiritualdiscovery.org or email trainingcenter@spiritualdiscovery.org.

National Public Lands Day Sep 24 offers free family fun, fitness

You have the chance to make a difference in America's National Parks, Wildlife Refuges, National Forests and many other public lands on the annual fall fix-up day. A third of America's land and water belongs to the public and each September tens of thousands of Americans donate a Saturday to help improve them. People of all ages volunteer to build trails, plant seeds, collect water samples, and clean up the parks and other special places they enjoy year around.

Local sites include: Lake Calavera in Carlsbad, Old Town State Park in San Diego and Table Mountain in El Centro. See Public Lands Day website for more sites and details. Admission to many federal sites is free on National Public Lands Day. Volunteers who join in the various service projects at those areas will receive a coupon good for an additional free admission to a national park or other participating area, good for one year.

Each year the event helps fix up famous locations where Americans hike, bike, climb, swim, explore, picnic, or just plain relax — such as San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, one of the most heavily visited urban parks; the National Monument to the Forefathers in Plymouth, Mass.; and the Audubon Center at Debs Park in Los Angeles, the first nature center in California to be built from the ground up to protect the environment. The experience keeps alive the legacy of the 1930s-era Civilian Conservation Corps, which enrolled 3 million Americans in improving public lands.

Those interested in volunteering can find local sites by calling toll-free 800-VOL-TEER (800-865-8337) or visit publiclandsday.org. The event is managed by the National Environmental Education & Training Foundation, chartered by Congress in 1990 as a private nonprofit organization. See www.neetf.org for more information.

B. K. S. Iyengar to Visit the U.S. this Fall

B. K. S. Iyengar is widely considered to be the world's greatest living yoga teacher and, more than any single person, responsible for the huge popularity of yoga in the West. Last year, Time Magazine named him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. This fall, Mr. Iyengar will make an historic and rare visit to the United States, from September 26 to October 20.

This extraordinary visit celebrates the release of Mr. Iyengar's fourth major book , Light On Life: The Yoga Journey to Wholeness, Inner Peace, and Ultimate Freedom (Rodale, Hardcover; October 2005); honors Mr. Iyengar's enormous contribution to the spread of traditional yoga and marks the 50th anniversary of his teaching in the United States.

Light on Yoga , Mr. Iyengar's first book published in 1966, is often called “the bible of yoga.” and is the most popular yoga book ever written, translated into 17 languages. Now Mr. Iyengar has written what may be the his final and most important book, Light On Life , a synthesis of lessons learned over his 70 years of disciplined and daily practice that explains the ideological heart of the life-transforming yoga “journey.”

In Light On Life , Mr. Iyengar uses stories from his own life, humor and examples from modern culture to illustrate the profound gifts that yoga offers. Written with the compassionate insight of the Dalai Lama's The Art of Happiness and the depth of this sage's great wisdom, Light On Life is the culmination of a master's spiritual genius, a treasured companion to his seminal Light on Yoga, and a new essential guidebook for anyone who wants to take this journey.

During “Light on Life 2005,” Mr. Iyengar will make major appearances in San Francisco (10/3), Los Angeles (10/5), Boston (10/9), New York (10/14), Washington, D.C. (10/18), and at the 10th Annual Yoga Journal Colorado Conference (9/26-10/2). This tour is an unusual and singular opportunity to experience the wisdom and presence of a true legend. Mr. Iyengar spends most of his time at his yoga institute in Pune, India and rarely travels anymore. His last visit to the United States was 12 years ago. At 86 years old, Mr. Iyengar has said that this will be his final trip to America.

Saturday, Oct. 1 – 6th Annual San Diego Solar Homes Tour – Over 30 homes across San Diego County will be open to the public for viewing real-world installations of residential solar energy applications.

While studies show enormous solar energy potential for San Diego County due to its geographic location and great weather, there are still substantial barriers to widespread adoption including costs, regulations and lack of awareness.
