Explore Objective Evidence of Reincarnation and Past Lives in LA

Join doctors, scientists and subjects of reincarnation case studies at The IISIS Conference, 10/3-5 at The Marina Del Rey Hotel, Los Angeles. Since about the turn of the millennium, multiple, independently researched reincarnation cases have been published which demonstrate that, from lifetime to lifetime, facial features, personality traits, passions, talents, aptitudes and linguistic writing style remain consistent among them.

One such researched case involves Barbro Karlen who has had memories since childhood of being Holocaust victim Anne Frank. At the age of ten, on her first trip to Amsterdam, Barbro knew the way to the Anne Frank House without directions and she knew where artifacts should have been located inside the Frank House, artifacts that had been removed for preservation. Barbro was also a childhood writing prodigy like Anne Frank.

The non-profit organization called IISIS, the Institute for the Integration of Science, Intuition and Spirit was formed to conduct reincarnation research with a focus on objective evidence of reincarnation. At the IISIS conference presenters will tell their own reincarnation stories. Join us at this groundbreaking—first of its kind—event. For complete event schedule or to register visit: www.iisis.net. To view more case studies visit the website of IISIS founder and President, Walter Semkiw, MD, MPH at www.johnadams.net.

4000 Attend Self-Realization Fellowship World Convocation

More than 4,000 people from around the globe attended the Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) World Convocation held August 3-9 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Featuring the teachings of Autobiography of a Yogi author and SRF founder, Paramahansa Yogananda (1893-1952), the program offered participants a week of spiritual inspiration and fellowship.

Throughout the week, SRF monastics conducted classes on the practical application of spiritual principles in daily life. They also held satsangas , group meditations, kirtans , and Kriya Yoga initiation ceremonies. Two films were presented:

Glimpses of a Life Divine , which features rare archival footage of Yogananda and interviews with those who knew him, and a filmed satsanga with Sri Daya Mata called Living in the Love of God.

Brother Achalananda—a member of the SRF/YSS (Yogoda Satsanga Society) Board of Directors—gave the opening talk on Sunday evening, which focused on the topic “Making Spiritual Happiness the Foundation of Our Lives.” He said that we long for perfect happiness because joy is the very essence of what we are—it is God's nature in us. Joy comes not from the senses, but from an inner state of consciousness that we can access through meditation. Also, as we forget ourselves in service to others without looking for anything in return, a divine force comes to us that can remold our lives nearer to our hearts' desire.

On Monday night, Brother Satyananda of SRF's Pasadena Temple spoke on “Inner Peace: Divine Antidote for Stress, Worry, and Fear.” Brother framed the struggle for peace in terms of “spiritual bipolarity”: the restlessness of ego consciousness versus the soul's longing for peace. He said that this adversarial relationship must be resolved. How? There is an instant of free will in confronting daily events, wherein instead of reacting emotionally, one can invoke peace and resolutely transmute automatic reactions into wisdom-guided responses. He also advised to seek the guru's guidance in meditation and be uncompromising in the pursuit of peace.

On Thursday night, Brother Bhumananda gave a talk on “The Guru's Love and Care for Each Disciple.” He spoke of the guru-disciple relationship as ordained by God—as a team working toward Oneness. Brother said that the disciple is separated from the guru's God-awakened consciousness only by vibration. Like a radio, we can attune our consciousness with the guru's through the purification process of pranayama , study of the guru's teachings, talking with the guru so that he is always present, and through meditation. When attuned with the guru, we can overcome any test.

The closing talk on Saturday afternoon, “The Compelling Magnet of Divine Love,” was given by Sister Namita. She spoke about the blessings that come from loving God—even from longing to love God more than material things. She highlighted the importance—of sincerity that cannot exist without fearless trust. She closed with a story about the joyous transformative power of gratitude for everything given by God and the spiritual healing that ensues by adopting such an attitude.

Thousands of Convocation attendees also visited the temples and spiritual sanctuaries established by Paramahansa Yogananda in Southern California, including: the Lake Shrine in Pacific Palisades—a shrine and meditation gardens dedicated to all religions which includes the Mahatma Gandhi World Peace Memorial; the international headquarters of Self-Realization Fellowship, located on Mt. Washington near downtown Los Angeles; the SRF Hollywood Temple; Sri Yogananda's crypt at Forest Lawn in Glendale; and the SRF Retreat and Hermitage in Encinitas (25 miles north of San Diego), where Sri Yogananda wrote most of his inspiring life story, Autobiography of a Yogi .

Self-Realization Fellowship, founded by Paramahansa Yogananda when he came to the United States as a delegate to the International Congress of Religious Liberals in Boston in 1920, currently has over 600 temples, retreats, and meditation centers in more than 60 countries. Interest in Sri Yogananda's teachings has grown steadily over the years, with readers of his numerous books and writings on yoga meditation and the spiritual wisdom of the East now numbering in the millions.

For more information about the life and teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and the 2008 SRF World Convocation, please contact: Self-Realization Fellowship, 3880 San Rafael Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90065-3298. Tel. (323) 225-2471 • Fax (323) 225-5088 • www.yogananda-srf.org.
